The Franchise tradeshow landscape has changed a great deal. Tradeshows traditionally were the only way buyers could get information from sellers and a really significant percentage of business was done at tradeshows. The first IFA show was called “World of Franchising Expo” and was conducted in Chicago in 1984, which drew nearly 8,000 paying attendees.
Over the course of the 1990's the shows continued to grow in size and stature - the Washington DC and Los Angeles Franchise Exhibitions were mainstays for over a decade and filled up the L.A. and Washington metro areas with franchise-crazed professionals and entrepreneurs each year. Over time, with the growth in the web as it related to franchising, Franchise shows seemed to drop in attendance as the Internet, Franchise Directories and other easily accessibly information sources provided resources to people at home which may have traditionally pulled them to a franchise exhibition.
In 2008, the IFA South show was launched in Miami which was an enormous hit and pulled in record attendance for the event. The Washington show was moved to the New York market and Los Angeles was recently transitioned to Anaheim. MFV Expositions - who coordinate and execute these IFA franchise exhibitions - do a really amazing job not only promoting and
managing these monumentous franchise events, but also strategically managing the location, venues and politics surrounding them as well.
Today, these shows have taken on a new size, scope and meaning when it comes to exposure. Many large, successful and established franchisors are now exhibiting at these key IFA events where in years prior the young franchise brands looking for better exposure drastically outnumbered established franchisors. Shows are bustling with activity now, through effective marketing and PR, MFV has managed to make tradeshows not only relevant again, but an absolutely essential part of franchise marketing. The Houston Franchise Show brought an attendance of over 20,000 people.
This New York franchise show will have over 450 exhibitors and looks to break 25,000 attendees providing franchisors with almost limitless opportunities to find their next strategic partners in franchising and franchisees their franchisor guide into entrepreneurship.
Franchise shows are an amazing array of entrepreneurial creativity, spirit, drive and passion. What better venue can you get a complete sampling of what is happening in the Small Business Community, what trends are taking place in the business environment and who has the next big idea in franchising? If someone were to be a fan of "The Profit" or "Shark Tank" (http://abc.go.com/shows/shark-tank/about-the-show), the IFA franchise show makes for amazing live entertainment with new business ideas, branding, industry concepts and creations along with meeting truly amazing people and entrepreneurs all under one roof.
